Among workers aged 55-70 who lost jobs but did not retire, the average job-search outcomes in any given four-month period over the four months of unemployment were as follows: 20% of older job seekers find employment; nearly as many–19%–stop looking; and 61% keep searching, according to a 2014 analysis of data from the Survey of Income and Program Participation.
